What is Testosterone gel?
TESTOSTERONE (tes TOS ter one) is the main male hormone. It supports normal male traits such as muscle growth, facial hair, and deep voice. This gel is used in males to treat low testosterone levels.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
Testosterone gel is one of several forms of testosterone medication used to treat hypogonadism in men. Hypogonadism is an abnormally low level of testosterone caused by certain medical conditions rather than by the natural decrease that occurs with aging. The medical conditions that cause hypogonadism are usually disorders of the testicles, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus. Low testosterone in men can lead to characteristic decreases in energy, metabolism, and sex drive.
Like other forms of testosterone therapy, testosterone gel can cause side effects. However, what makes testosterone gel unique is that its side effects can be passed to others who accidentally come in contact with the application site. Understanding testosterone gel side effects as well as these additional risks can help keep you and others safe while you use this treatment.

36 yr old male. T level below 300. I am only 36 but felt 66. I had no energy, depressed, no sex drive and horrible sweating episodes. Once we found out what was going on I was put on Androgel. I noticed it the 1st day. I was, and am still amazed with it. I feel like a new person. I have so much energy, great mood all of the time and my sex drive is back! This is an awesome product.

I began using the Androgel product 6 days ago and the effects have been fantastic. I had a declining T level that was about 153 Total and 37 free when I began the treatment. All other blood work looked perfect, according to my Urologist. I began with 4 pumps, applied in AM right after the shower and on the whole torso/chest. After the second day of use, my energy began to return and increased daily. My libido came back in earnest by day 3, which made my wife very happy. My libido had suffered the most, besides a lack of ejaculate volume. My energy is back the the point that I dont need to take Adderall and have begun to back off prozac for depression. My mind is clearer and my memory is better than it has been in about 3 years. I love this stuff and am beginning to work out again with all the energy. My mornings are easier, with lots of energy to get moving… amazing feeling for a man that has felt like an 80 year old for the past 3 years.

I have been using Androgel transdermal for 3 years and have found it to be exceptionally effective. I began taking it because of loss of energy and attitude. Both energy and attitude has improved considerably and as a bonus a huge improvement in my libido. I have had no adverse side effects from the medication.

I had low testosterone of 290. After about 2 weeks my life really changed for the better. I had better memory, energy, libido, sleep and mood. I was using 5gm packets. At one month I went back for a recheck of the testosterone level and it was 3000, yes 3000!!! Dr. told me to stop and retest in three weeks. That was a week ago. I now feel like crap and am back to where I started. Can you really get a reading that high in one month? I think it was a lab mistake but doctor was firm about stopping and retesting in 3 weeks.

This is a very dangerous drug.Currently being advertised on TV and other places as the answer to every mans problem. No side effects are mentioned and it has many! Was given to me WITHOUT blood tests. Appears men are the next hormonal science experiment as women were years ago. How many cancers and other health related issues must happen before the severity of the drug revealed. No side effects what so ever are mentioned on TV ads. Certainly hear about them with other drugs and this one has serious ones. PLEASE DON’T MAKE THIS SEEM LIKE THE MIRACLE DRUG. The gel is very dangerous if it comes in contact with women and children. Not to mention the unbelieveable price tag. It also speeds up your body’s own system (guess that’s the energy you suddenly get). Could this be good for men with any type of heart conditions or other health conditions? Besides what a great way to hook your body on a drug. You own body stops making it own hormone once you start this drug. How can this be good unless you have had proper testing. I got off the stuff for months, got a physical and blood test and my levels after not being on “T” were nearly 700 but the MD was more than willing to write that RX without the necessary tests! Guess it was guaranteed income if you had to keep coming back for a refill. Just trying to stress that this is a very serious drug and not to be taken for just that little boost of energy. What a joke. Lost hair, gave me a quick temper, ruined my sex life and always knew exactly when it was running low in my body. Friends and family noticed a big change in my personality. I got so I needed a fix! Legal addicting drugs. The manuafacturer wants you addicted so they demean you on TV as living in the shadows. Need more honesty regarding this drug before it hurts more individuals. Hope this helps others to not take a chance with something that has only been on the market a short time and given out freely for the asking.

I used the gel and loved it, never felt better.. I was no longer tired, my moods increased and sex drive was through the roof. I went off of it because a lapse of insurance and all symptoms have returned, insurance is fixed and have already made a appointment to get started back on, cant wait…..I did not know how bad I felt until I realized how great this stuff made me feel!!!

63 yr old athletick male diagnosed with hypogonadism,i.e. weight and strength loss, low libido, depression, fatigue. After 6 mos, everything back to normal, strength gains verified by weightlifting are 20-30%. Only side effect has been significant hair growth in odd and frequently comical (to my wife, at least) ways.

I had a bad case of ED. Most of the time Viagra and the others would help then I found out my testosterone level was low at 223. After a month of treatment with Androgel I went from having no desire and “dead wood” to wanting it multiple times a day with spontaneous and very satisfying erections and performance. This treatment saved my marriage!

Been using androgel for about 18 months now. Started in May 2009 with four pumps a day and felt great and my erections were firm and sex was great. But over time my T levels started dropping, so In Dec. 2009 I was moved up to 5 pumps. In August 2010, almost like a light switch went off my sex drive nosedived and lost interest in sex, masturbation and the whole nine yards. In Oct. I had my physical and found that my T level had dropped to 284 which is low. I’m 52, workout four days a week in great shape. My urologist moved me to 8 pumps a day since Oct. 23 and to date still don’t feel any different and there is no sex drive. Still no erections or the ability to maintain one. Any thoughts on this. It has been 18 days since i went to 8 pumps.

The gel is a bit of a mess and a pain in the butt to use every day. Other than that, my energy is back (going to the gym again) and libido is back. I think about sex all the time again now…did not even realize libido was low until it came back. Using this has improve my marriage greatly and made us like kids again.

Being a 32 year old my DR almost fell out of his chair when he got my lab tests back. A non working Thyroid and a T level of 180! Going on my first month of Androgel and Synthroid have to say I have not felt this good in 10+ years. From my mood to workouts all the way to my sex life Androgel has truly changed my life.

I have been on the Androgel 1% for about 3 years now and I have to say it has truly changed my life. I went for a medical research and was disqualified and did not know why. So I called and asked why I had not heard from the research team and they said my testosterone level was too low for the tests they were performing, it was 29. I checked with my urologist and he put me on the Androgel and my life simply turned around, my mood leveled out, my fat belly disappeared, the only thing negative to report is my testicles shrank. Not a bad trade for feeling the best I have ever felt!

I am 65 and due to a very low level of energy, I had my T level checked and it was very low, 126. At the end of December, 2010, I started four pumps daily, 5 g. I had a very significant increase in energy within 10 days and the energy continued to increase until about the beginning of February, 2011. I see my MD next week and think the dosage needs to be increased. I am now very doubtful about the effectiveness of this medication and my level of satisfaction has definitely decreased. It is certainly easy to use and I am wondering if any older guys, like me, have had an increase in energy for about a month or so and then had a sharp drop in energy after that time.

I have been on androgel for one year now and have seen a significant improvement in attitude, energy and libido. I don’t know how long I have to stay on it but don’t want to quit using it yet. also, I have a lot of body hair and have had significant body hair growth since taking Androgel. I am not pleased with the extra body hair growth. Wondering if that has happened to anyone else?

After 8 years of taking Viagra, suddenly I kept losing my erection. Thought I would die! Moods were very changeable but mostly negative. No energy. Could not get much arousal from my very sexy partner of 17 years. Found out low T 297. Within 2 weeks, horney as hell!, and love making and sustained erections back to level of 20 years ago! 1, 2 punch in combo with Viagra. Love it! Thanks for the prescription, Doc!

I have heart disease, my T levels were 0, used 1st Androgel then Testim for over 1 year, T levels great, sex drive great, then developed pain in abdomin, turned out to be blood clot, dr. believes related to gel. Discontinued gel, pain stopped. Odd reaction?

Androgel was prescribed to me because my testosterone is very near the low range (300). It worked for about a month. After 3 months, my testosterone increase only by 1% so I have to take higher dosage. After 20 days, I have to stop Androgel because it is causing anxiety and nervousness.

After my doctor prescribed the lowest 4 pump dose, I went back and had my testosterone level drawn. It was actually lower. I increased to six pumps and a month later it was only slightly higher. Then I went 8 pumps, and still my testosterone level was only 5% higher than it was when I started. I feel no different either. Apparently my skin just doesn’t absorb the stuff. I’m thinking about going with the shots–or something that I don’t have to wait around with my shirt off and avoid my family for 15 minutes until it dries. That part is really annoying.

I am in my 2nd year of taking Androgel and energy level and libido is normal now. Also, getting an erection and maintaining one is much much easier. I had a lot of body hair before taking Androgel and that has increased a lot. Extra body hair is the only complaint.
Many of the side effects of testosterone gel aren’t serious for the user. However, if any side effects last longer than a few days, you should tell your doctor.
If you experience symptoms of serious side effects, tell your doctor right away. Allergic reactions to testosterone therapy can increase your risk for similar reactions to testosterone gel. Seek medical help if you have trouble breathing or start to swell in any part of your body.
Remember that when you use testosterone gel, there are additional risks for others who may come in contact with you. Make sure to take extra precautions to protect other people from these risks.
